Projects and investments Gibson Island paper mill upgrade
100% recycled paper mill upgrade unlocks more products for Queensland farmers
A $30 million upgrade at our 100% recycled paper mill on Gibson Island in Brisbane will enable us to manufacture new grades of paper for corrugated boxes. The project, completed in June 2025, represents 100,000 staff hours and 170 people to complete the upgrade—from sheet formation to drying and energy systems.
Our Gibson Island paper mill—the only 100% recycled paper mill in the state—recycles paper from Queenslanders’ recycling bins into 100% recycled paper and corrugated boxes.
This upgrade means we're manufacturing new products locally, supporting Queensland agricultural and food and beverage industry to thrive, from the Gold Coast to Far North Queensland.
The paper mill is co-located with our material recovery facility, which sorts kerbside recycling from households and sends recycled paper to the mill, diverting it from landfill and keeping it in the circular economy.
