We are New Zealand’s only domestic glass food and beverage packaging manufacturer, and we’re proud to work with our customers to find new ways to make their packaging more sustainable.
Last year we made over 700 million glass bottles and jars right here in New Zealand for iconic wineries and local food and beverage brands. Recycling doesn’t just divert glass from landfill, it also protects our precious natural resources and reduces energy use during remanufacturing. A Visy glass container with 70% recycled content* can be up to 30% less greenhouse gas intensive than one with no recycled content.
In 2021 Visy’s Chairman, Anthony Pratt committed to increasing the amount of recycled content in Visy’s glass bottles and jars to 70 per cent on average across our New Zealand and Australian operations.
This milestone is made possible in part due to New Zealand’s best-in-class kerbside glass recycling, where sorting glass by colour at the kerb helps us recover and remanufacture more recycled glass. It’s a circular, secure, and local supply chain that ensures businesses are stocked with the packaging needed to keep supermarket shelves stocked and exports flowing.
*The 70% milestone refers to the average recycled content for Visy glass products made in New Zealand during calendar year 2024 and includes both internal and external cullet (recycled glass). Recycled content of products is not fixed and may alter from time to time due to changes in our supply chain.
