Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) Bayswater Depot, operated by Outlook Australia, has reached a significant milestone, with more than 25 million eligible drink containers hand counted and sorted by the dedicated team onsite.
Unlike many other CDS depots that rely on automated machinery, the Bayswater team of 12 employees hand counts every container. This operating model reflects Outlook Australia’s mission to create and facilitate sustainable opportunities for individuals to live, work and participate in their communities.
State Manager, Tiaan Reader, said the milestone reflects the team’s commitment and the strong support from the local community.
“Every container returned here is an opportunity for our team to contribute in a meaningful way. We’re incredibly proud of the inclusive workplace we’ve built at Bayswater and thankful for the community’s ongoing support,” Tiaan said.
As the North Zone operator for CDS Vic, Visy continues to support the growth and impact of refund points like Bayswater.
Tim O’Donnell, General Manager Container Deposit Scheme at Visy, acknowledged the important role the depot plays.
“The dedication of the Bayswater team is an outstanding example of the positive social impact embedded within Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Hand counting more than 25 million containers is no small feat - it keeps valuable materials out of landfill while creating real employment opportunities for people who deserve them,” he said.
The achievement at Bayswater reinforces the broader benefits of CDS Vic, which continues to deliver strong environmental, community and social outcomes across the state. By choosing to return containers through the scheme, Victorians are not just being rewarded with 10c, they’re helping divert valuable materials from landfill, supporting positive social impact, and contributing to initiatives that make a meaningful difference in their local communities.
