Julia is a Reliability Engineer at our recycled paper mill in Reservoir, Victoria, responsible for preventative maintenance to keep all equipment reliable and safe for operation.
“I really enjoy the hands-on environment and the opportunity to continuously learn. Every day brings a new challenge, and I love the problem solving aspect of ensuring our operations run smoothly.”
After migrating from Brazil, Julia pursued her master’s degree in mechanical engineering technology in Australia. Before completing her studies, she applied for an engineering role with Visy.
“I came all the way from the other side of the world knowing I wanted to be part of something bigger. From day one, Visy made me feel very welcome.”
“I was the first woman to join the maintenance team across all Visy paper sites, which made me feel really proud. It gave me confidence that I could bring something new to the team and help make a difference.”
Since joining Visy, Julia has been involved in several reliability improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing paper machine performance. Collaboration with her team, she says, makes it all possible.
“The culture is great—people are supportive, collaborative and always willing to share knowledge. There’s a strong sense of teamwork between operations and engineering. We all share the same goal to make things better and keep the plant performing at its best.”
Julia is looking forward to stepping into managerial roles in the future. She loves bringing out the best in others and driving people and projects forward.
“Leading, motivating and helping others to grow is something I’m genuinely passionate about.”
For anyone considering a career at Visy, Julia says go for it.
“Visy offers great opportunities to learn, grow, and take ownership of your work. If you’re someone who likes challenges, problem solving, and working in a fast-paced environment, this is the right place.”
