Mitchell recently started in a new role as Site Services and Seaming Manager at our beverage can facility in Yatala, Queensland. He has worked at our Yatala facility for six years, ensuring that it has all the services it needs to operate and visiting local customers to ensure our packaging meets their needs.
With a background in high-speed bottling, Mitchell was excited to join Visy and manufacture cans. He enjoys the continual growth and willingness to reinvest internally, as well as working with customers and markets as they grow and evolve.
He has been involved in several exciting projects to expand our operational capabilities, including increasing the speed of a beverage can line up to 2000 cans per minute.
This year, Mitchell installed a new punch grinding machine at Yatala, a Visy first. The punch grinding process is essential to forming the body of a can, but over time these punches wear down and need to be sent overseas for maintenance. Now, with the new machine in-house, turnaround times have dropped dramatically from three months to just three weeks.
He also enjoyed working on a project to upgrade the site’s compressed air system, another Visy first. This increased the site’s energy efficiency, requiring less electricity to run compressors in the manufacturing process.
Mitchell likes his team’s dynamic backgrounds.
“The team is diverse and brings a variety of knowledge and experience from similar industries to the table. We have can-making experience from five different countries!”
Mitchell looks forward to continued growth in our beverage can division, with many exciting projects underway and planned for the future.
“There are so many divisions that people wouldn’t realise that Visy has under its umbrella. Take the opportunity.”
