Caleb is an apprentice printer in our cardboard packaging site in Coolaroo, Victoria, having recently transitioned from a trade assistant role. He works across printing operations while supporting the team and learning from experienced printers. Most of his team’s work is making pre-printed packaging for food and beverage customers.

“My goal is to continue developing my skills through formal training and on-the-job experience, progressing steadily toward an operator role.”

Caleb’s journey with Visy began in 2015 when he worked at our Dandenong site, in Melbourne’s southeast.

“That experience gave me early exposure to large-scale corrugated operations and the coordination required to bring new equipment and processes online.”

He left Visy in 2018, to operate his own business. In 2024, he returned to the company to develop his skills in printing and commit long-term to the trade.

“Visy offered the stability, scale and depth of experience that made it the right place to continue my career.”

Since then, Caleb has enjoyed the opportunity to “return to the tools.”

“Moving into paper-based packaging and preprint has been a strong learning curve. Starting as an apprentice has allowed me to focus on fundamentals, learn correct methods, and build confidence.”

“Working in preprint, I also enjoy seeing how artwork, inks and substrates are prepared and refined before moving into full production. It provides a solid understanding of how quality is established from the start of the process.”

“Working alongside people who have spent many years in the industry has been a valuable learning experience, particularly in understanding the realities of high-volume production.”

For anyone considering a role with Visy, Caleb recommends being eager to learn and develop new skills.

“Be patient with the process and take feedback on board. The environment suits people who are willing to develop their skills over time and learn through hands on experience.”

“For me, it’s about steady progress, learning from the environment around me, and doing the job properly.”
